I'm Running Out Of World

This is a small and thrilling glimpse into the brilliantly fizzing universe of Frederich Kunath. One realizes quite how rarely the image is made to work in our ocularcentric culture when confronting work which is so acutely intelligent, active and arresting. Kunath assembles and orchestrates with extraordinary tension and audacity. Refusing the idea that there are parallel but incompatible visual languages he insists on a fluid dialog between diverse pictorial traditions in the service of wit, dynamism and an unexpected poignancy of huge appeal. At their best, the paintings in this show reanimate the whole idea of painting while showing up a culture of image making which is dying of complacency and self absorption.
